World Snowboard Champs in La Molina
Mawa represented South Africa in the recent Snowboard World Championships in La Molina check out an update from Oliver!
I’m pretty sure you’ve heard that the World Champs ended on an upbeat note. The weather did a complete about turn and we had a cold but otherwise perfect final day and the organisers managed to fit the last of the qualifiers and both the men and ladies final run into the day. In the end Mawa placed 16th out of 27 but I think it’s less about the result than the fact that she took a risk, handled the pressure and went for her ideal run which included hitting the first big kicker line and sticking a great method. She didn’t quiet land her backside 180 on the final kicker which cost her speed and points on the last rail but check her smile after that run !
Mawa and Jay are now back in Rogla where she will train with Iztok and his crew, and our 2 junior SA riders, Luke and Dean for the next 6 weeks or so. Their training will be peppered with a few smaller events, the next big one for Mawa being the World Cup in Bardonecchia on 11 March. Luckily we have our very own resident photographer and sports reporter, G-banger, following the action so I am sure he’ll keep us all updated with the goings on : . http://andyroyalphotography.co.za/blog/
Luckily the fun never stops and the next big event to look out for is the 6 star TTR Air & Style in Innsbruck on 5 February. Our adopted SA son, and Iztoks protégé rider, Jojo, managed to get his hands on an entry in the Rookie division. Pete and I will be there to witness the action so hold thumbs for Jojo who is busy training up a storm on a sponsored bag jump specially for the occasion. Iztok tells us that he’s hungry to pull of something spectacular in Innsbruck so be on the look out for this special young rider !!
